Job description
EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is a subsidiary of Edvance, which is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, established in 2018 in charge of the design and the realisation of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide.
In particular, EPR-E is responsible for the design and construction of the nuclear island for Hinkley Point C (HPC) project and preparing the design replication and engineering activities for the Sizewell C (SZC) Project.
At HPC we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.
Due to our ongoing project commitments, we are recruiting for a Construction Project Manager for our HPC Project
The MEH Construction Project Manager (PM) has the responsibility to ensure delivery of the construction activities for the life cycle of the contract or work package in accordance with the overall Project schedule in his buildings. The PM will ensure planning and delivery in accordance with all safety, quality, time, and cost parameters to meet the needs of the Project. The PM reports directly to a Senior Project Manager or Delivery Manager and is responsible for the direction of activities associated with the full life cycle delivery of a contract or work package assigned to them.
The nature of the role is to work independently in some areas to ensure the effective delivery of activities in the program.
The Project Manager will apply a project management approach to activities relating to design principles and system design to ensure all activities are delivered safely to quality, budget, and schedule.
Key responsibilities:
- Guarantee that Safety is the overriding priority for any activity performed during Pre-Construction activities which includes nuclear safety as well as Industrial Safety. Planning the work must also recognize the importance of a strong Nuclear Safety and Quality culture (conformance with the requirement, implementation of the site adaptation, non-conformance treatment) and the importance of a “right first-time” attitude including the implementation of lessons learnt and share good practice.
- Drive the MEH construction activity in a building from the handover from Civil Work Programme to the handover to Commissioning. This includes all the preparation activities before the physical start of the activities in the building (documentation, procurement of material, interfaces with other Programmes, synthesis of MEH activities, commissioning needs, access) by gathering project data and producing reports for top management review.
Lead and update the MEH L4 schedule with the support of the planner (4 and 16 weeks looks ahead). This L4 schedule is the backspin of the MEH activities management. This update needs to consider :
o The handover dates from Civil Work programme to MEH
o The delivery of the equipment
o The available (or future) resources in MEH JV
Profile
The position may be required to travel to other company locations in the UK and possibly Europe as required.
As part of the HPC industrial strategy, Nuclear New Build (NNB: Owner and Licensee of HPC) organized with its Mechanical & Electrical erection contractors an MEH Alliance,. The engineer is embedded within New Nuclear Build (HPC project) for MEH Programme (Mechanical / Electrical / HVAC activities), working on a daily basis in the client Quality Management System, along with engineers belonging to NNB.
Within EPR-E, the CMT is part of the Site Support Integrated Team of EPR-E HPC directorate. The position is seconded within EPR-E. EPR-E (EDF EPR Engineering UK) is responsible for delivering the design for a number of buildings, systems and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project through an integrated team, to support to HPC construction activities and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. and set up a team called the CMT (Construction Management Team) to support, drive and steer the works of the MEH Alliance.
To be considered, the following qualifications, skills and experience is essential:
- Degree eductaed or similar qualification in engineering, construction or related field is advantageous.
- Construction Project experience with a background in erection/maintenance of plant.
- Vast experience in equivalent missions.
- General skills in Civil Works and MEH (Mechanical / Electrical / HVAC) and contracts management are required.
- Wealth of experience in project management (Contract, Time-schedule) is require.
- Strong technical interest, particularly in the field of construction or maintenance of industrial installations is required for this position.
- An expert with computer tools is essential: manipulation of massive data under Excel, 3D viewer…
- Knowledge of EPR model would be highly advantageous
- NEC3 or similar Target Price contract experience would be an advantage
- Ability to implement field operational experience and integrate OPEX.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Leadership and its application in complex projects. Strong interest for new challenges and major projects.
- Strong adaptability and high autonomy. Proficient numeracy, analytical and critical reasoning skills.
- Proficient application of estimating, scheduling, planning, risk.
- Excellent presentation, influencing and facilitation skills.
- Understanding the needs of nuclear quality and how nuclear quality is assured and controlled.
- Professional Qualification in Project Management such as APM PPQ or other recognised qualification is desirable but not essential.
- Successful experience in engaging multi-level stakeholders including contractors, consultants, and advisors in a regulated environment.
- Experience operating within commercial arrangements (NEC and FIDIC) would be advantageous.
- Fluent English required:writing technical documents and daily exchanges in English
