Job description
The Head of Government Affairs and Strategy is responsible for two core areas:
- Leading and coordinating Framatome’s strategic engagement with UK government bodies, Parliamentarians, industry associations, regulators, EDF and Group companies, and key stakeholders to shape and influence nuclear policy and build brand recognition and reputation
- Coordinating the development and communication of the UK country business strategy.
Working closely with the Board and Executive team, the role ensures that both government affairs and business strategy are fully integrated and aligned to advance Framatome’s interests and drive organisational success.
As the company grows and develops these responsibilities will grow and the balance of work will vary, thus providing both variety of work and scope for development.
Government Affairs
· Lead and coordinate Framatome’s engagement with UK government departments, Parliamentarians, regulators, and industry bodies.
· Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including EDF and Group companies, to advance Framatome’s policy objectives.
· Monitor, analyse, and interpret the political and regulatory environment, identifying risks and opportunities for Framatome.
· Shape and influence nuclear policy by representing Framatome’s interests in consultations, working groups, and public forums.
· Advise senior leadership on government affairs strategy, policy developments, and stakeholder management.
· Prepare briefings, position papers, and responses to government consultations.
· Ensure compliance with relevant lobbying and transparency regulations
Strategy
· Coordinate the development of the UK country business strategy, ensuring alignment with Group objectives and market conditions.
· Work closely with the Board and Executive team to define strategic priorities and communicate them effectively across the organisation.
· Analyse market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory changes to inform strategic decision-making.
· Develop and deliver clear, compelling communications of the business strategy to internal and external stakeholders.
· Support the implementation of strategic initiatives, tracking progress and reporting outcomes.
· Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to ensure strategic objectives are understood and achieved
Profile
What we are looking for?
This role requires a proactive, diplomatic, and strategic leader who can navigate complex stakeholder environments, drive policy influence, and articulate business strategy with clarity and conviction.
Essential
- Extensive experience in government affairs, public affairs, or political lobbying or related strategic role within the nuclear industry (7+ years).
- Good understanding of UK parliamentary procedures, business case development, policy development, and legislative processes.
- Ability to operate effectively at Board/Exec level
- Knowledge of business strategy frameworks and processes
- Strategic thinker with excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills tailored to diverse audiences.
- Passion for energy security, net zero, and the role of nuclear in the energy transition.
- Relevant higher degree to the field.
Desirable
- Experience working within the UK Parliament or devolved institutions.
- Knowledge of the UK civil and defence nuclear industry and its regulatory landscape.
- Experience in a membership organisation or industry association.
- Experience of leading or a significant role in business strategy development
- Experience of working in a global business
