Job Opening Title

Stage Realistic Assumption Analysis of Accidental Transients with Reactor Automatic Shutdown Failure F/H

Job type

Trainee

BU description

DTI

Job description

Within Framatome, the Technical and Engineering Division is responsible for the design, development, and licensing of nuclear steam supply systems and related equipment. It also provides operators with engineering studies for design, implementation, and services. In this capacity, it acts as a technical authority, bringing all its expertise to ensure a high level of safety and performance.
You will be integrated into the Core Design and Transient Analysis Department.

While formally reporting to the Core Design and Transient Studies Department (DTIPC‑F) within Framatome’s Technical Directorate, you will be assigned to EDVANCE and, more specifically, integrated into the Process & Reactor Safety (PSC) unit of the Engineering and Works Division (DIT).

Context:
As part of the safety demonstration for the EPR reactor at Hinkley Point C (HPC) in the United Kingdom, numerous accidental transients involving the failure of the reactor’s automatic shutdown system (Anticipated Transient Without Scram – ATWS) are being studied.

These studies are conducted in 3D using conservative methodologies and assumptions to meet regulatory requirements. However, such methodologies may distort the perception of actual safety margins and the variability of results depending on the fuel loading pattern in the core.

Objectives:
The aim of the internship is to perform simulations of these ATWS transients using the most realistic methodologies and assumptions possible, and then to analyze the results in order to draw conclusions, particularly those that can be leveraged in the context of the reload approach.

Tasks:
Within the EPR HPC neutronic safety analysis teams, the intern’s tasks will include revisiting the modeling of ATWS transients and progressively introducing more realistic study assumptions to assess the actual margins with respect to safety criteria. In a second phase, an analysis of the variability of these margins depending on the fuel loading pattern will be carried out.

Profile

You are preparing a Master’s-level engineering degree (Bac+5) from an engineering school or equivalent university program.
You have basic knowledge of reactor operation and/or reactor safety, particularly in neutronics, thermal sciences, or thermohydraulics.
You enjoy teamwork and are able to listen, contribute ideas, and take initiative.
You demonstrate energy and autonomy.

This internship is available starting 2026 April 1st for a duration of 6 months, based in Montrouge (92), within a facility subject to an administrative background check.
