 EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is a subsidiary of Edvance, which is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, established in 2018 in charge of the design and the realisation of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide.
In particular, EDF EPR Engineering UK is responsible for the design and construction of the nuclear island for Hinkley Point C (HPC) project and preparing the design replication and engineering activities for the Sizewell C (SZC) Project.
At HPC we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.
We are looking to recruit for the role of Piping Discipline Lead to join our Joint Design Office at Hinkley Point C.
The JDO Piping Discipline Lead is reporting operationally to the JDO Disciplines Manager and functionally to the EPR-E Piping Discipline Manager. 
The JDO Piping Discipline Lead manages a Team made up of staff from EPR-E, HPC and other Partners. They are responsible for the performance of the team and the adequacy of staffing and skills. They have authority to select, hire, assess and discharge members of his/her team whatever their mother company.
The Piping Discipline Team is the local Point of Contact for the management of topics related to piping in the scope of works of EPR-E/EDVANCE/CNEPE scope, in coordination with HPC Construction and Commissioning Teams. Those topics relate to field events such as clarification request, adaptation requests, change request, non-conformance, etc.

In this context the Piping Discipline Team is responsible for:

  • Managing requests in his scope of delegated authority,
  • Detailing, proposing solutions and coordinating the resolution of requests with staff in the back-offices,
  • Challenging requests and any other topics from the contractors and HPC.
  • Ensuring that Site Engineering and Construction OPEX is formalized and distributed to other projects within EDF entities.

 

Acting under delegation of the JDO Disciplines Manager and within his discipline, the JDO Piping Discipline Lead is responsible for:

  • Approving update of deliverables previously issued by the back-office teams and updated by the JDO teams,
  • Looking over the continuity and the consistency of the design modified by the JDO teams,
  • Making sure that methods, referential, tools, process and delegated authority from the back-office teams are complied with,
  • Looking over the interests of EPR-E/EDVANCE/CNEPE in the JDO on a daily basis, in particular with respect to topics such as intellectual property and responsibility of EPR-E/EDVANCE/CNEPE further to modification of their design by the JDO teams

In addition to their participation in the operational management of the JDO as a whole, the JDO discipline manager will be managing as a line manager the EPR-E/EDVANCE/CNEPE staff participating in the JDO, either indirectly through the discipline leads 

Profile

To be considered, the following skills and experience is required:

  • Robust knowledge and extensive experience of the EPR design and engineering processes
  • Fundamental experience in design, procurement and installation of pipework and associated supports - Highly advantageous
  • Knowledge of RCC-M code
  • Experience on a construction site
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Experience of leading large teams in complex environments
  • Strong technical knowledge of EPR design and ideally UK EPR design
  • Project management skills and delivery focused approach
  • Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to set, achieve and maintain high standards of safety and quality.

·         Management experience in nuclear engineering and new nuclear build projects

Project management / delivery experience
Knowledge of EPR engineering process
Science, engineering degree or equivalent
 

Language Skills

  • English: Fluent
  • French is a bonus.

 

This role will require BPSS Clearance.

 

The post is restricted due to the nature of the role and the export control regulations which apply. All applicants will be subject to national security and export control vetting processes
