Job description

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is a subsidiary of Edvance, which is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, established in 2018 in charge of the design and the realisation of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide.

At HPC we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

We are looking to recruit for the role of Head of Nuclear Island Buildings Team.
The Nuclear Island Buildings Manager is a senior leadership position within EPR-E reporting to the Edvance HPC Deputy Project Director / EPR-E Head of HPC, responsible for managing the Buildings Integrated Team (ITB-B) and the delivery of all associated design activities for the HPC Project covering:
Detailed design activities for Hinkley Point C Units 1 & 2 project on the Nuclear Island buildings scope including Common Raft Buildings (HR, HK, HW, HL) and the N3 Area Buildings (HN, HQ, HD, and the HVD/HVL/HXA/HHI new buildings), consisting of civil works, steelworks and related MEH layout activities, transverse studies, and integration of equipment design and feedback from HPC contracts;
Post-design delivery engineering activities for all Nuclear Island Buildings as listed above, including full Product technical integration and design configuration management;
Engineering support to Hinkley Point C Units 1 & 2 site for all Nuclear Island Buildings’ construction activities.
The Nuclear Island Buildings Manager is the senior manager responsible for managing the Buildings Integrated Team (250+ people) based in both Bristol and Paris, and the delivery of all associated design activities for the HPC Project to safety, quality, design maturity, time and cost requirements.

The Nuclear Island Buildings Manager is the senior manager responsible for managing the Buildings Integrated Team (250+ people) and the delivery of all associated design activities for the HPC Project to safety, quality, design maturity, time and cost requirements.
More specifically, the Nuclear Island Buildings Manager is responsible for the following:

  • The overall Products integration within the Integrated Team scope covering all disciplines within the buildings e.g. civils, layout, MEH, equipment, steelworks, transverse/hazard studies, technical integration
  • The overall delivery to the project safety, quality, schedule, cost and design maturity requirements of all Products in scope of the integrated team;
  • The delivery of all Post-CS2/post-delivery activities associated with the Nuclear Island Buildings scope;
  • Being the main point of contact for the HPC Project for all day to day operational management of HPC Nuclear Island
  • Buildings design delivery
  • Management and reporting of all Risks & Opportunities (existing, updated, new) for Nuclear Island Buildings Team
  • Management of the interfaces with other integrated teams for the HPC project

Profile

Other – Responsible for:

  • Managing 250+ resources to achieve delivery of all NI Buildings scope to quality, time and cost
  • Other Senior Leadership responsibilities as part of the EPR-E Senior Lead Team.

Financial - Managing a budget for the team ~£50m per annum

Operating Environment

The Nuclear Island Buildings Manager role sits within the EPR-E Senior Leadership Team.  The role is based within the EPR-E Bristol office (at Aztec West). The key stakeholders are based:

  • within the Aztec West office in north Bristol
  • within other Edvance offices in France, mainly Paris
  • at the Hinkley Point C Site in Somerset
  • at Barnwood Gloucester

For this reason travel in UK and regular travel to France is required as part of the role.

 

The post is restricted due to the nature of the role and the export control regulations which apply. All applicants will be subject to national security and export control vetting processes.

To be considered the following qualifications, experience and skills are essential:

  • Degree Level or equivalent in a relevant subject
    Significant experience in senior engineering / leadership / project management
  • Nuclear New Build, EPR or PWR experience
  • Robust knowledge and extensive experience of the EPR design and engineering processes
  • Project and delivery management experience;
  • Good understanding of requirements and expectations of UK laws, regulations, nuclear industry operating experience and best practices
  • Leadership experience in a highly regulated, technical environment
  • Excellent communication, organisational and people engagement skills
  • Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Exemplary team and pastoral management skills;
  • Ability to set, achieve and maintain the highest standards of safety and quality
  • Fluent English 

Desirable Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Working knowledge of the French language;
  • Experience interfacing with regulators
