What you’ll be doing…

The Head of Mechanical Branch reports operationally to the SZC NI Project Director  This role has an overall accountability on Technical, Quality, Cost and Schedule aspects for the scope of the Mechanical Branch, which includes:

-       Mechanical equipment of the Nuclear Island (design replication, technical input to procurement, technical management of the contract, review and acceptance of documents from supply chain, resolution of technical issues, review of manufacturing non-conformances, etc.),

-       Mechanical fluid systems of the Nuclear Island (design replication, resolution of technical issues, etc.).

The role supervises the delivery from the disciplines and the contributing entities located in the UK as well as in France and Germany. The role includes in particular the management of the interface with DQPI (in French “Direction de la Qualite de la Performance Industrielle”) who are delivering works in relation to manufacturing activities.

This role will ensure that design replication is seen as a critical strategic activity and key to the success of our activities and bears responsibility for putting under control replication of equipment.

Principal Accountabilities

Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

·         Operational management of the Mechanical Branch (c. 8 direct reports)

·         Representing the Mechanical Branch in the SZC Project Senior Leadership Team

·         Management and coordination of all activities assigned to the Mechanical Branch including those delivered through service agreement with DQPI and other EDF Group entities,

·         Interfaces between the Mechanical Branch and other internal parties involved in the SZC Project,

·         Risk identification and mitigation.

·         Accountability for delivery of the Mechanical Branch against the commitments made in the task orders (quality, timeline and cost) and at completion.

·         Provisions of material for building up the Task Orders and subsequent Variations in relation to the scope of the Mechanical Branch,

·         Arbitration and steering, or escalade to a higher level for activities in the remit of the Mechanical Branch,

·         Management and accountability for technical integration within the scope of works of the Mechanical Branch, including management and resolution of open points as well as alignment with the Project Reference Configuration,

·         Management of the technical interface with Quality Directorate within SZC Co, including participation to the Manufacturing SteerCo

·         Managing a budget of[ET1] [AF2]  450-500kh per year

·         Managing a multi disciplinary delivery team in the UK, France and Germany to achieve delivery

·         Other Senior Leadership responsibilities as part of the EPR-E Senior Lead Team.

 

Profile

Your background may include some of the following (not exhaustive):

·         Degree Level or equivalent in a relevant subject;

·         At least 5 years’ experience in senior engineering / leadership / project management;

·         Nuclear New Build, EPR or PWR experience;

·         Robust knowledge and extensive experience of the EPR design and engineering processes;

·         Project and delivery management experience;

·         Good understanding of requirements and expectations of UK laws, regulations, nuclear industry operating experience and best practices;

·         Leadership experience in a highly regulated, technical environment;

·         Excellent communication, organisational and people engagement skills;

·         Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders;

·         Exemplary team and pastoral management skills;

·         Ability to set, achieve and maintain the highest standards of safety and quality;
